SHORT DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The current head-quarters of the Angolan oil parastatal, Sonangol, is situated in down-town Luanda, with various subsidiary buildings scattered about the city. In recent years a plan was formulated to design and build a new head-quarters which would not only incorporate and house some of the diverse subsidiaries under one roof, but it would also be the flagship building for the plan to invigorate and rebuild the Luanda City Centre.

In 2000, this vision took its first step to becoming a reality when the draft plans for the new HQ were drawn up by Korean architects.

Burmeister & Partners, in a joint venture with an international consultant successfully competed for the tender requesting the following services:

  • Design review of the works done by the Korean architects
  • Detailed supervision and contract management during the construction phase.

The Sonangol headquarters once completed will represent the largest and tallest building in Luanda and it will form the cornerstone of the Luanda City Centre Development. This is a high tech, modern, state-of-the-art structure at a completed cost of $90m.
